Team Oak perform their HAKA
Year 6 Dance
In Term 2, Team Oak have started a unit in dance called The World of Sport. In this lesson we rehearsed an individual/ team dance routine - known as the ‘Haka’ traditionally performed by the New Zealand International Rugby Team, before the start of every game they play.
Tradition of 'The Haka'
The Haka is a type of ceremonial Māori dance or challenge. Haka are usually performed in a group and typically represent a display of a tribe's pride, strength and unity. Actions include foot-stamping, tongue protrusions and rhythmic body slapping to accompany a loud chant.
