The government has made it compulsory that Relationship Education is taught at primary school. This is so the building blocks needed for positive and safe relationships, of all kinds, are taught and thoroughly understood by all children. This will start with family and friends, how to treat each other with kindness, and recognising the difference between online and offline friendships. 

The government recommend that Sex Education be taught in primary schools where it is tailored to the age, physical and emotional maturity of the pupils. Our Relationship and Sex Policy includes the curriculum overview so parents / carers can follow their child's learning journey.  

You cannot withdraw your child from Relationships Education because it is important that all children receive this content, covering topics such as friendships and how to stay safe. If you do not want your child to take part in the reproduction objectives set out in the PSHE curriculum overview, you can ask that they are withdrawn. The Headteacher must grant this request. We ask that you discuss with us your reasons for this.  The science curriculum also includes content on human development, including reproduction, which is statutory.
